Storage battery

The storage battery is a device for energy storage in a chemical form which can be used further as an electricity.

The storage battery works thanks to that two various metals, being in acid solution, create a potential difference therefore the electric current is developed.

    On cars unattended storage batteries are established. In the storage battery it is not required to add the distilled water. The battery is completely tight except for small ventilating openings in a cover.

Survey of the storage battery


    Switch off ignition and all consumers of electric energy. Disconnect wires from plugs of the storage battery. The negative wire is necessary for disconnecting first of all and to connect in the last turn. Remove the battery from the car.

If the case of the storage battery is damaged, remove the battery in rubber gloves to protect skin from electrolit.

    Check elements of fastening of the battery as they can be damaged by the electrolit which has got on them. If necessary clear them warm soda solution.
    The same solution clear the top part of the battery. Examine the battery on lack of cracks. If there are cracks, replace the battery. Clear plugs of the storage battery. Clear internal a surface of clips of the wires connected to plugs of the storage battery. Establish the storage battery in the car. . Connect wires to plugs of the storage battery. Reliably tighten fastening of clips of wires to plugs of the storage battery. Put on plugs of the storage battery a thin layer of vaseline.

At a charging of storage batteries the explosive mix of gases is allocated.

At work with wires and electric devices using fire, the sparking devices opened by fire-dangerous light devices and smoking is forbidden. It is necessary to avoid iskreniye emergence at the address with wires and electric devices.

Never close directly battery plugs – there is a big danger of receiving a trauma because of a strong iskreniye.

Check of specific weight of electrolit

Specific weight of storage electrolit changes with temperature. Temperature increase leads to reduction of specific weight and on the contrary.

Specific weight of electrolit of completely charged battery room of the battery should be in limits between 1,260 and 1,280, at temperature 26,7°C.

Correction of specific weight should be carried out by addition of 0,04 points for everyone 5,56°C higher than temperature 26,7°C or subtraction of 0,04 points for everyone 5,56°C temperatures 26,7°C are lower.

For example: Areometer indications – 1,280 at temperature 5.56°C. According to a difference of temperatures it is necessary to modify specific weight on 0,028 points. True specific weight is equal 1,252.


Do not measure specific weight of electrolit at once after a dolivka of the distilled water.

Distinction in specific weight of electrolit between banks of the storage battery indicates that the battery is faulty 50 and more points and it is necessary to replace it.
