Check of the current developed by the generator

This check allows to define, whether develops the generator a current which is equivalent to rated power.

Preparation for check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

    Before test check the following elements:
    1) A condition of the storage battery established in the car;
    2) Tension of a belt of a drive of the generator.

The storage battery which is used for check of the current developed by the generator, should be partially discharged. At completely charged battery check cannot be executed because of insufficient loading of the generator.

    Switch off ignition. Disconnect a wire from the negative plug of the storage battery. Disconnect a wire from the generator plug "B".

Connect wires and щупы the ampermeter very reliably as on a chain the big current will proceed.

    Connect the ampermeter of a direct current with a limit of measurement of 0-100 A consistently between the plug "B" and the wire disconnected from the generator. Be convinced that negative щуп the ampermeter connected to the wire disconnected from the generator. Connect the voltmeter (0–20 In) between the plug "B" of the generator and "weight". Be convinced that positive щуп the voltmeter connected to the generator plug "B". Connect a tachometer and a wire to the negative plug of the storage battery. Leave a cowl open.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

    Check that the scale of the voltmeter is well visible for determination of size of tension. If the voltmeter shows tension 0 In, means, the electric chain connecting the plug "B" of the generator and the negative plug of the storage battery is not closed, the fusible insert or unreliable connection with "weight" fused. Start the engine and include headlights. Include a driving beam of headlights and the heater fan in a mode of the maximum supply of air. Quickly increase frequency of rotation of a cranked shaft of the engine to 2 500 mines–1 and read values on devices, thus the ampermeter will show a current developed by the generator.

After engine start the current of a charging of the storage battery very quickly decreases, therefore this check is necessary for carrying out very quickly.

Result of check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

    Indications of the ampermeter should exceed limiting value. If value of a current less limiting value, and a wire connecting an exit of the generator, as it should be, remove the generator from the car and check it. Limiting value of a current: 63,0 And for the generator 90 A.
  1. Limiting value of a current is specified on the plate attached to the case of the generator.
  2. The current developed by the generator, depends on temperature and loading. Therefore for obtaining limiting value of a current partially discharge the storage battery, previously having included headlights on the car with the idle engine.
    Limiting value of a current developed by the generator cannot be received, if generator or air temperature the too high.
    After completion of test of limiting value of the current developed by the generator, transfer the engine to a mode of idling and switch off ignition. Disconnect a wire from the negative plug of the storage battery. Remove a tachometer, the voltmeter and the ampermeter. Connect a wire to the generator plug "B". Connect a wire to the negative plug of the storage battery.
