Back drum-type brakes

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove a wheel.
  1. Unscrew a nut of fastening of the bearing of a back wheel and remove a nave with a brake drum.
  1. Remove the bottom returnable spring, a clip and a spring of support of a brake shoe.
  1. Remove brake shoes together with a regulator.

Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Measure internal diameter of a brake drum. The indicator of hour type check palpation of a brake drum. Replace a brake drum if internal diameter of a drum exceeds maximum permissible value.

Nominal diameter: 203,2 mm
Maximum diameter: 205,2 mm
Palpation of a brake drum: 0,05 mm
  1. Measure thickness of overlays of back brake shoes. Replace all brake shoes on one axis of the car even if only one block has thickness, smaller maximum permissible.

Thickness of overlays of brake shoes: 4,5 mm
Minimum admissible thickness of overlays of brake shoes: 1,0 mm

  1. Check uniformity of a prileganiye of a brake shoe to a brake drum.
  2. Examine working brake cylinders on absence of leakages of brake liquid.
  1. Examine a brake board on lack of wear or damages.

Installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. With greasing grease the following points of contact of brake shoes:
    – points of contact of brake shoes with a brake board;
    – points of contact of brake shoes with a basic plate.

The recommended lubricant: SAE J310, NLGI No. 2.

  1. Establish a rack of support of a brake shoe.
  1. Establish returnable springs on brake shoes.
  1. After installation of a brake drum several times tighten the lever of the parking brake.
